I transform classic into contemporary, I celebrate the past by bringing it to the present. The materials are the main subject in each body of work. I look beyond their main use and I give it another purpose and meaning. .
-In this digital age, Film is becoming archaic. The analogue era has almost gone but I change its main function and use this old material to create art.
-Classical abstraction was common in the previous century, I cut my abstract pieces and then weave them to create a new painting. The art piece is reborn into a contemporary piece after this transformation of its form.
-Traditional Bedouin tents are also from the past. I take it, brake it, decompose it and once again I transform it into something new, a piece of contemporary art.
In my last three projects I discovered that I find value in looking towards the past and bringing it to the present. These materials have one thing in common, they are trying to survive in our time; I just help them through the transformation of its forms and utilities. I sabotage their original form, to reconstruct the material to be reborn into contemporary art. Film, abstraction and Sedu fabric represent the past. I change their main features and turn them into an art expression.
I can say that I am an archaeologist of materials, I look to the past to find nostalgic components that materials carry with them. I don’t want to transform their meaning, I just want to give them a new life and purpose in our time to become part of our present.
