Artists in Residency #6 – Fire Station’s Final Exhibition
After being selected over hundred of applicants, I was given a studio for one year to develop a series of art works. Those pieces would be exhibited at the end of the residency. For this project I kept working with Sadu, the Bedouins traditional cloth used in their desert’s tents as my main material.
This piece represents how is Qatar transitioning from a traditional rooted country to a contemporary society. I have witnessed this change for the past 9 years and this make me feel part of the transformation of the country. Sadu represents Qatari’s Traditions and and the way it is set represents Qatar’s new and develop society.
During the whole year of my art residency I kept every threat that I was pulling out from each cloth as part of the documentation of my proses. I was introducing those threats in small jars which I called, “Time Capsules”, so all these capsules (290 time capsules) were the documentation of my proses during the whole residency.
As conclusion this piece represent the transformation of a country due the hard work of all of us together as a society. Threat by threat we can weave a new and better world.
